Happy Canada Day/Independence Day North Americans!!!
I hope everyone in Canada had a great long weekend with Canada’s 144th birthday on Friday. Hopefully our American neighbours enjoy today as the United States of America celebrate their 235th birthday.
With both of these celebrations happening within days of each other and people on both sides of the border travel back and forth all the time, I say we make the first weekend of July a 4-day holiday for both Americans and Canadians.
I know that the dates don’t ALWAYS happen like this because each country celebrate their our anniversary on the specific day but I seriously think that things like tourism and the economy could benefit from a joint celebration.
Think of all the cross-border promotions that would be offered and how much more united ourtwo countries would be.
This idea comes to me because of cousins I have that live near Buffalo and come over to Canada to celebrate with the rest of our family every long weekend. They both stay for the entire weekend, taking a day off each to celebrate.
I’m sure my family is not the only one that this happens to, so it would be much easier for EVERYONE if my idea were to be implemented!
Let me know what you think about this idea and why you think it might or might not work.
