Did yesterday seem like the longest day of life to ANYONE else?
I know that we got an hour extra sleep as we fell back into Eastern Standard Time (EST) (and if you forgot to change your clocks you probably arrived an hour early for work this morning), but that shouldn’t have effected how long the day was.
I awoke at 7:30am yesterday (which for a morning news anchor is sleeping in) and by the time noon hit, I had already done a ton of little jobs and my girlfriend even had a nap!
In the afternoon, we put up the Christmas light in the trees and on the deck then three of us played Scrabble while another member of the household had a nap and finally the four of us played a few games of cribbage…time check: 6:00pm
So we ate dinner (shepherd’s pie…delicious!) then drove to town for some ice cream and arrived back home just before 8:00pm.
We watched a movie (Crazy, Stupid Love…I don’t recommend it) and went to bed just before 10:00pm.
I just don’t know why the day lasted so long and it make me wonder, why do we have Daylight Savings Time ANYWAY? It was introduced to help farmers in the summer get more sunlight to feed animals and feed livestock, but that’s for people who get up at 4:00am (I appreciate it).
In today’s society, the majority of jobs are 9:00am-5:00pm and a lot of farming has moved to hydroponic and/or shipping meat and vegetables from other parts of the world.
I think we can all do as Saskatchewan does and eliminate daylight savings time because, while yesterday was a great day with an extra hour of sleep, I dread March 11th 2012 when we give up an hour of sleep just for an hour more of sunshine in the morning…before most people even get up!
