Where Was I For a Week?

I’ve returned safely from my first vacation outside of Canada and the United States!
I went to the Melia Cayo resort on the island of Santa Maria in Cuba for 7 nights and had an absolutely amazing time! What a beautiful resort and a beautiful country!
Of course, like in life, there were a few imperfections. My girlfriend and I had to move rooms twice because of problems with the air conditioner and fridge, but they resort was very much obliged to help us move and there were no real problems with that! Another thing, and it has nothing to do with the resort I think, is that we paid to use the internet but it was soooo slow that we couldn’t even send an email in a half hour!! But to be honest, we were on vacation and we shouldn’t have been on the internet anyway.  And that was really the only things that could have been better…other than the front desk employee that was a SUPER BITCH about EVERYTHING, but I won’t go into detail about her because she’s not worth my breath!
My girlfriend, her parents and I all agree that the food on the resort was AMAZING! The buffet which was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner was very good and there was a 24-hour snack bar that made great food! We went to 4 a la cartes which were themed, in order of my favourite to my least, Japanese, Mediterranean, Italian, and French.  My meals were really good at all of them, but the selection at a couple of them was not great.
The weather was perfect all weekend.  We had, literally, 2 minutes of rain on the second day while we were at the beach but that was the only rain during the day. On our 4th day, there was a wicked storm with high winds, thunder and lightning but it didn’t start until 9pm after dinner and only lasted for about a half hour. It was awesome to see a storm on a Caribbean island and the lightning was spectacular!
We went on one excursion that the resort offered and that was a day trip on a catamaran to a number of different spots in the ocean. We got to spend time on a beach that you could walk out a half a kilometer in ankle deep water, snorkeled in a couple of different spots, saw a dolphin show and had an awesome lobster lunch!
Add in all the booze you could drink, some archery, a couple of entertaining shows put on by the staff of the resort, a fashion show by the pool and all the booze you could drink and it was an amazing trip that, for me, was WAY overdue!

  1. Haha. Mention of "All the booze you could drink" twice. Apparently that was the best part!

  2. Well I don't know if it was the "BEST" part...but it was certainly a great addition!
